Urgency

URGENCY is the feeling that occurs when you put the key in the door and you have to drop everything and run straight through to the toilet. It often happens that you cannot get the pants off quickly enough and flooding may sometimes occur. There is nothing you can do to stop the flow. This can lead to high levels of anxiety about going out and going “just in case” every time you see a toilet.

CAUSES

  • Many woman start to experience urgency as they enter menopause. The lower levels of oestrogen cause weakness in the Pelvic Floor muscles and the bladder wall can become hypersensative. Caffeine can become very irritating to the bladder wall.
  • Poor fluid intake reduces the capacity of the bladder and makes it hypersensitive.

TREATMENT

  • Bladder Retraining
  • Pelvic Floor Strengthening

Usually 3 visits over a 6 week period, gradually increasing strengthening exercises will settle the bladder wall and provide confidence.
